Community relations
Students in the community
Southampton Solent University takes its role within the community very seriously, especially in residential areas where the student population is high.
The majority of our first-year students live in halls of residence, then for the remainder of their study, move into privately-rented housing. Many houses in the Polygon area are occupied by Southampton Solent University students, however there are still many local residents living there who are entitled to respect and to live a quiet and peaceful life.
Southampton Solent University is aware of the impact that students can have on the local community and spends considerable time and effort on pro-community campaigns to raise awareness among our students about their responsibilities as part of the local community.
Together with the Students' Union|, the Community Relations Officer works closely with the Environmental Health Office, Police, Police Community Support Officers, Southampton City Council, landlords, our Accommodation team, Residents' Associations and letting agents to try and resolve any continuing problems with noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour.
Should any local residents incur any problems (for example, noise nuisance, anti-social behaviour) from groups believed to be Southampton Solent University's students they are advised to follow the residents protocol for complaints, which shows what action the Police, Environmental Health and the University are able to take.
