Internal student satisfaction survey

The 'yourcourse' survey 2010/11

The ‘yourcourse’ survey is the University’s internal student satisfaction survey. The survey is aligned with the National Student Survey (NSS). This allows for seamless analysis and triangulation of the ‘yourcourse’ and NSS data sets, offering the University a richer and more complete picture from all levels of study.

The survey was administered online to all level 1 and 2 students, with an aim to make the responses representative of the wider student body. (The NSS is already administered to level 3 students each year.) This year, the Warsash Maritime Academy used the same questions as ‘yourcourse’ in their internal student survey. The survey provides valuable information which the University is able to use to enhance the learning experience of its students.

Issues arising from the student feedback are reported at Academic Standards and Development Committee and are addressed by the appropriate departments and personnel. The University also has a ‘You Said, We Listened’ section on the portal. This provides students with examples of how the University has responded to student feedback from the various routes available to students, including course representatives, faculty fora, as well as student satisfaction surveys such as ‘yourcourse’ and the NSS.

The key message to emerge from the ‘yourcourse’ survey is that the overwhelming majority of respondents were satisfied with their learning experiences at SSU. The highest scoring areas were ‘learning resources’ ‘teaching’, ‘personal development’ and ‘overall satisfaction’.
