Entry level
Applications are welcomed from school leavers aged 18+ and entering employment, also from mature students who wish to undertake career development on a part-time basis. This is one of very few courses where it is possible to work your way to a degree without having previously obtained formal qualifications. With this in mind all applications are considered on an individual basis.
Exemptions: If you already possess and HNC/D you may be granted exemptions on a subject-for-subject basis.
Career opportunities
When you graduate you will have developed intellectual and personal skills which are valued in industrial, commercial and professional life, as well as in public and social administration.
Course overview
The FdA Business course (part-time) at Southampton Solent University is an innovative and flexible programme which provides a broad-based educational experience to students of business.
The pace of study may vary according to your personal situation but generally students will have gained an HNC Business by the end of the second year, before progressing onto an HND Business or Foundation Degree in Business in the third year. Students may then progress to the BA (Hons) Business Studies in the fourth year. This means that students can choose to follow the path directly through to the BA (Hons) Business Studies or, leave after gaining the HNC, HND or FdA in Business. With the flexibility of being largely able to manage your own pace of study it is therefore possible to progress from the HNC right through to the BA (Hons) degree in a minimum of four years. Alternatively, at the slowest pace, it would take eight years to complete the same course.
This course is designed to be very flexible and you can select your own pace of study, with the option to leave and rejoin the course as your personal circumstances dictate. Please note that as the award for the Foundation degree in Business degree depends on the completion of a work-based project, you will need suitable employment experience for this route.
The course is taught by experienced academic staff, many of whom have a background in industry. Their knowledge is invaluable at bringing this course to life and giving you the best balance of theory with practical application. As a student with the University you will also have full access to our library resources, on-line journals and IT support, as well as career advice and guidance through our award winning Student 1st support service.
