"I had an amazing experience and gained a lot of priceless information about film and the industry at the University.

Career opportunities

In addition to working in creative aspects of the industry there are opportunities in research, administration, distribution and film archiving. The skills acquired relate to employment areas other than film making and broadcasting which include advertising, marketing, public relations, publishing, journalism and arts administration.

Employers include broadcasters, independent production companies, communications companies and large organisations supporting in-house production.

This is a very competitive career area and relevant experience such as volunteering or completing a work placement is very valuable. It is common for graduates to start in an entry level job including secretarial and administrative work, assisting a producer or director on set, and being a runner.

Graduates find employment in the film and media industries and related fields:

  • teaching
  • arts administration
  • public relations
  • graduate management programmes
  • publishing.
