Glade Programme 2007
Magazine Journalism Students produce Glade Programme
This summer some of the Magazine Journalism students were lucky enough to produce the Glade Festival programme.
Working closely with members of the eDevelopment Centre and two design students, the team planned a schedule to utilise their limited time. The tight deadline meant that the students had to be strict with their time, giving them a taster as to what it is like working in the professional media industry.
The project was to produce a 48 page magazine complete with 14 stage overviews, a line-up detailing the artists, times and venues and other features, including general information about festival safety. Once the final copy had been checked, rechecked and eventually signed off, the students could relax a little and look forward to the event itself.
Before setting off to the festival the team got a sneaky chance to see the finished Glade programme, complete with its glossy pages. The final result was amazing! Each page looked top quality. Professional work, with eye catching graphics.
Whilst setting up camp and preparing for the big event there was a definite sense of a unique bond within the group. Each member had worked together and shared the responsibility of having a real magazine published.
On the first day the students split into two groups. Some went out on the gates to sell the programmes to the long queue of people, while others set up a base so they could sell them inside the festival. The programmes were selling like hot cakes, everyone wanted one.
By the end of the second day most of the 4,000 programmes had sold, which was surprising, considering it was pouring down with rain. When all the hard work was done and there was nothing left to do the students took advantage of the fact that they were at a festival and partied the rest of the weekend
Being at Glade was a great opportunity, and for some of the students it was their first time at a music festival.
