News release - Graduate Fashion Show
May 11 2009
Southampton Solent University's final-year fashion students will be celebrating the fantastical and the frugal at this year's Graduate Fashion Show at 7pm on Wednesday May 20 at Southampton Guildhall.
Hosted by Galaxy radio, the Graduate Fashion Show enables fashion designers of the future to display their work on a runway with a live soundtrack in front of an audience of industry professionals.
More than 18 final-year fashion design students will be showcasing collections with themes ranging from plastic fantastic dolls – paying homage to Barbie's 50th birthday – to superheroes and the Battle of Hastings.
With the credit crunch and environmental issues in mind collections will show that you can still be stylish on a shoestring, with designs created from recyclable materials and a 'make do and mend' philosophy.
Not to be left out, first and second-year students will also be taking to the catwalk celebrating all that is British with their 'Anglo Mania' themed shirts and 'tailoring with a twist' pieces.
Programme leader in Fashion, Simon Seivewright says, "The collections demonstrate the broad thinking and eclectic mix of cultural, global and ecological themes that influence fashion today."
Level 2 Make-up and Hair Design students have also been producing designs for the Black History 'Heroes' runway show which will also be featured during the evening.
Tickets cost £10 each and can be booked by calling Southampton Guildhall Box Office on 023 8063 2601 or online at www.southampton-guildhall.com||.
