Fashion show

May 13 2010

Southampton Solent University will be celebrating its strong links with the fashion and maritime industries when its Industrial Revolution-inspired Graduate Fashion Show goes port-side for the very first time this May.

Collections by final-year fashion students will hit the catwalk against the backdrop of one of the UK’s busiest and most successful ports at this year’s Graduate Fashion Show on Thursday 20 May (from 6.30pm) at Southampton City Cruise Terminal.

The Solent Fashion Programme prides itself on producing designers who are thinkers as well as do-ers. This year’s collections highlight both the students’ business awareness and willingness to experiment.

Graduating BA (Hons) Fashion students will be showcasing their collections with themes ranging from a childrenswear collection – inspired by fantasy adventure film, The Spiderwick Chronicles – to a luxury ethical range, Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, and the insect world.

Programme Leader in Fashion, Philip Clarke, says: “Fashion is a highly competitive industry so, for graduates, it is really important that they develop a portfolio of ideas which displays their practical skills but also their unique identity as creative designers”.

This year will also see the first cohort of graduates from the Media and Fashion Styling Programme, who will be showing their designs on the catwalk and on large screens. The courses – the first of their kind in the UK – are enjoying a blossoming reputation within the industry, including plaudits from top online fashion house Vogue.com.

Tickets to the show cost £10 seated, £5 standing - and can be booked via www.solent.ac.uk/fashionshow||
