College signs up
Southampton Solent University Vice Chancellor Professor Van Gore met with Totton College Principal Mark Bramwell to seal the terms of a flourishing relationship between the two institutions.
An Accord was signed during a special event on Solent University's campus to formally recognise and celebrate the close ties that exist between the University and Totton College, underlining the benefits for learners at both institutions.
Through the signing, Solent and Totton have agreed to an annual action plan for students, including taster visits, masterclasses, guest lectures, summer schools, information sessions, mentoring and general aspiration-raising.
It will also include staff based activity such as staff development, exchanges, joint project working and work shadowing, as well as collaborative activity , including joint course development, curriculum design, funding bids and shared projects.
Former students from Totton College attended the signing event to talk about their journey from Totton College to Southampton Solent University, giving an insight into their experiences as Solent undergraduates.
Professor Van Gore said: “I am delighted with the Accord, which formalises the close working relationship we have had over recent years and puts more in place for effective partnership working. As progressive and successful institutions, we share the same values about excellence and access.
“As well as opening up new opportunities for Totton students, we shall be doing more to ensure that staff in each institution have the fullest understanding of all the different progression possibilities into higher education.”
Mark Bramwell added: "Solent University and Totton College have a history of collaborative work over a number of years based on shared values that provide opportunities for young people to further their education and increase their career prospects. Solent staff have - through their knowledge and enthusiasm - been an inspiration to many young people at Totton.
"The Accord gives both institutions the opportunity to provide flexible and customised pathways to improve students’ confidence in stepping up to a university education."
