Parents information - Attend an Open day
Open days
One of the best ways to find out what a university is like is simply to go and visit it. You will be able to get a flavour of the institution and have an opportunity to ask any questions. Universities welcome parents who choose to accompany their son/daughter.
What happens at an Open day?
Attending a university Open day is one of the best ways to get a real impression of the institution. These events are designed to enable prospective students to see whether the university is offering what they are looking for in terms of specific courses, as well as its atmosphere and facilities.
During an open day at Southampton Solent University, your son/daughter will be given the opportunity to attend general presentations about student finance, student life and accommodation. They will also be able to attend course presentations and meet members of academic staff to talk through specific courses of interest. Campus and accommodation tours provide the opportunity to chat to current students, which can be far more revealing than reading a prospectus!
By the end of their visit, your son/daughter should be able to decide if the university and course is right for them, and avoid the disappointment of starting a course and finding that it is not what they expected.
The format of the day can vary enormously between universities, so it is best to contact each institution directly or visit its website.
