Glastonbury Illuminated Documentary

James Williams directed the Glastonbury Illuminated documentary. His aim was to capture the essence, atmosphere and the feeling of the night.

"To do this I tried to avoid cle’ched staples of documentaries such as interviews, voice overs and literal cutaways,” he said.“The viewing of the film needed to be an interpretive experience for the viewer. The idea is that you are taken on a journey through the underbelly of the Glastonbury night life, revealing the unexpected beauty that lurks within the darkness. Glastonbury Illuminated contrasts the wild and exciting culture with the often over looked beauty of the event.”  Camera Setting

James became involved with the project by applying to Solent Productions to direct one of the documentaries that was being produced. James was keen to direct the ‘night-time’ documentary as it would allow him to try different and creative ideas.

So how did James feel about his first year working at the Glastonbury site?

"I didn't know what to expect really. I was blown away by the sheer size of the event. There was always something going on. Working at the festival has definitely made me a more confident director. I now know that I can co-ordinate a crew even in a busy and unpredictable environment.”

James’ Glastonbury Illuminated documentary has been entered into the RTS awards.
