Polygon collections
During the annual changeover period in June and July, many students are moving in and out of rented accommodation for the summer, ahead of the start of the academic year. Eco Ernie and his army of community-spirtied volunteers head out on set nights to collect the many yellow bags of recyclables kindly donated by our students.
In 2011 we gave Eco Ernie even more rounds to complete with visits to each of our halls of residences to encourage yet more donations from our students. Ernie collects and stores the recyclables at Central Baptist Church in Polygon where we hold a Big Sort event, to sort through the items, which culminates in a Big Sale event, where the more desirable items are resold to the community including residents, local businesses and students.
In 2011 we found all sorts of goodies inclduing a pink inflatable chair, cowboy hats, Hugo Boss designer's suits, Karen Millen leather jackets, cuddly toys, brand new Topshop leather purses, a robot and exercise equipment!
