Visiting the University
As an Exernal Examiner, you will be required to visit the University.
You will be invited to attend the annual External Examiners' Briefing in your first year as an external examiner at Southampton Solent University.
You will also be required to attend all relevant Assessment Boards|.
Unit External Examiners
Under the two tier system, Unit External Examiners are expected to attend all Unit Assessment Boards. In most cases, this will involve attendance at two Boards, usually held in June/July and September. In a small number of cases the role may require attendance at a third Board in January/February. Assessment Board attendance is now reflected in the University's external examiner fee structure.
Unit External Examiners may wish to make additional visits to the University. This will vary depending on the subject area and such visits should be discussed with the Faculty. The University will reimburse reasonable travel and accommodation costs for these visits.
Progression and Award External Examiners
Progression and Award External Examiners are expected to attend all Progression and Award Assessment Boards at which decisions on student progression and awards are considered. In most cases, this will involve attendance at two Boards, usually held in June/July and September.
