One distinctive and flexible feature of the undergraduate Accountancy and Finance degrees is that they share a common first year, which means that you do not have to decide immediately if it’s the finance or accountancy pathway that suits you best. The option is there to transfer between the Accountancy and Finance degrees up to the end of the first year following discussion with a tutor.
Due to the professional nature of the Accountancy degree there is a slightly higher requirement for entry to this course which students from combined courses will need to meet. This may be through University entry requirements of from completed work during the first year of the course.
Pillars
Historically students on the Accountancy degree have studied an option at Level Two and continued the area with their Level Three option, mainly to gain exemptions. Therefore, we have identified options in terms of paired units comprising both Level Two and Level Three units. These are now referred as pillars and enable you to choose units which follow a particular route.
Freestanding option
Not all students will wish to continue a pillar into the third year and nor would it be desirable to force students to continue to study an area that they did not enjoy at Level Two. Hence the need for options that have no pre-requisites from Level Two. Further options will become available, as further areas of interest become known.
