Innovative Teaching

Innovative TeachingAt Southampton Solent University we relate what you learn in the classroom or lecture theatre to real-life situations as well as taking part in a major strategic marketing simulation designed to help you understand how the decisions you make impact on your company’s performance and share price.

While our Marketing degrees do not include specific work placement opportunities, students on all courses (except BA (Hons) Marketing with International Business who spend Year 2 overseas) are encouraged to apply for a placement on the Shell STEP programme - a work placement scheme for ambitious undergraduates.

Shell STEP projects last for eight weeks during the summer period. You will take on and deliver a project outlined by your employer and produce a report on the results. For 2007/08, students received £190 per week (tax and NI free) from their organisation. Depending on demand for places (currently about four applicants for every place) you can apply for a placement close to home. Visit the STEP website| for more information.
