Equality Cluster

Equality and Diversity Research Cluster Georgina Andrews, Michelle Nardone, Michele Towell

The Equality and diversity research cluster is a small, multidisciplinary team of researchers, encompassing subject disciplines such as Law, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Housing. We have been closely monitoring the progress of the Equality Act 2010, focusing on the impact on employers and Further and Higher Education providers. The subject matter of this research cluster furthers the University’s commitment to the provision of inclusive and flexible forms of Higher Education and social justice.

Students will directly benefit from research within the cluster, which underpins the curriculum in rapidly developing areas. Responding to the needs of employers is a priority at the heart of this cluster. The combined knowledge and expertise developed through research, coupled with the ability to offer accredited short courses, will place the University in an excellent position to respond to these needs. A flexible, accredited Professional Development Unit ‘Equality in the Workplace’ has been developed by the cluster. The unit can be tailored to meet the needs of individual employers. Working through the Solent Centres, Southampton Solent University aims to become the provider of choice for the public sector, SMEs and third sector organisations.
