Innovative Teaching

Innovative TeachingMuch of the assessment is focused on the planning, organisation and management of live events. To aid with this, there are effective links between the University and the Events Group of Southampton City Council (Tall Ships Race; The Boat Show), as well as events venues such as the Glastonbury and Glade Festivals, The Harbour Lights, De Vere Hotel conference facilities and the Mayflower Theatre. Course staff members are actively engaged in the development of the body of knowledge that is Events Management, and so are really up to date with the relevant current issues.

Students are expected to successfully complete a six week work placement between the first and second year. The Placement Office will help students plan and organise their own placements, which are often near home, but may be abroad. This allows you to graduate with an honours degree having already gained practical experience of working in the industry. View our work placement testimonials| to see the kind of opportunities our students have had in the past.

As mentioned, practical ‘live’ events are used to integrate learning and assessments throughout the three years of the courses. Check out some of the fun events| that first year students organised for their end of year assessment.
