Facilities

FacilitiesThere’s nothing more inspiring than having top-notch facilities at your disposal. As a modern university, we’ve invested in the best to enhance the student experience. Our new, purpose built Watersports Centre is located at our Warsash campus at the mouth of the River Hamble.

In addition to its degree-level courses, the Outdoor and Events programme delivers practical, internationally recognised qualifications in navigation, dinghy and keelboat sailing, powerboating and kayaking at the Centre, which is Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Canoe Union (BCU) accredited. The University’s student sailing club also uses these facilities for recreational sailing, race training and selection.

BA (Hons) Watersports Studies and Management student, Alisdair Boden – who sailed into the record books as the youngest man to circumnavigate Britain single-handed – gained his RYA Safetyboat qualification at the Centre. “The sailing club gave me the perfect opportunity to put into practice the training I had at the Centre,” said Alisdair. The University’s website is kept up to date with details of all the courses being offered throughout the year, visit www.solent.ac.uk/sport/watersports|.
