Ocean Village 2 Cruise Trip
Students studying tourism, international tourism and cruise tourism and two lecturers took part in a cruise field trip to the Eastern Mediterranean on Ocean Village 2. The trip was designed to give greater insight into tourism and how the cruise industry is a major component of tourism in general. The students were asked to keep a daily log so that they could reflect on the field trip. Throughout the week, the students went on a variety of excursions, from a tour of St Marks Square in Venice (pictured), walking the walls of Dubrovnik, boat ride and diving in Corfu, tour and Greek dancing in Zankinthos, pottery demonstration in Crete were but a few of the activities on offer. The students were given an opportunity to look behind the scenes and experienced food service, food production and preparation, stores management, laundry, stage production management and an invitation by the ship’s captain to visit the bridge, where the 1st Officer explained the importance of navigation to the students. The whole programme was all made possible by the Hotel Director and his senior staff who then held a question and answer session for the students on the last day, before departing for the UK.
