The courses in the School of Art and Design are based on a highly regarded history of Art, Design and Media teaching at Southampton Solent University. Historical context and critical theory consistently underpins our teaching, and a distinctive feature of the curriculum is the dynamic mix of theory and practice.
Students on our courses benefit through direct engagement with the numerous social and cultural amenities such as art galleries and performance venues, located in or near Southampton.
Our students work in a relaxed and expressive environment. We have dedicated studio areas for
fine art, animation, illustration, as well as extensive photography studios and dark-room and print-making facilities. State of the art computing labs are used for
digital media production and computer animation, including computer and video games.
