Entertainment Technology Group
The Entertainment Technology group at Southampton Solent University is based in the School of Computing and Communications in the Maritime and Technology Faculty. It consists of the Entertainment Technology Programme, the Audio and Media Technology Research Group and the Outside Broadcasting unit.
The group has a long tradition of producing ‘media informed’ engineers and technical operations personnel, as well as producing research and consultancy in areas related to the entertainment industries. There are several different subject specialisms within the group, covering a range of related subjects from Audio through to Broadcasting.
The Entertainment Technology Programme is a range of undergraduate courses which focus on the technical side of the entertainment industry, providing graduates who are skilled in systems and component design, acoustics, electronic design and maintenance, computing and networking for the media sector, in addition to graduates who are more focused on technical operations such as camera operations, live sound, systems installation and integration and communication systems/talkback.
The core philosophy of the Entertainment Technology group is to offer a broad experience of technology, ensuring the maximum of transferable skills and meaning that graduates are ready for entry into the increasingly multi-skilled media industries . Our courses
There are three core areas within the Group, with a range of degree titles, each of which is a specialism within the course area.Within each area, the majority of units will be shared between the titles, with students on different titles choosing specialist options at years 2 and 3.
