Audio and Media Technology Research Group

 

Juan BattanerThe Audio and Media Technology Research Group at Southampton Solent University is a research centre based in the Faculty of Technology.  Working in conjunction with the Solent Centre for Design and Innovation, it aims to develop leading research and consultancy in both subject and educational research relating to technology in the media industries.   

Research interests are diverse across the group, but all relate to aspects of media and entertainment and how we interact with it, including technologies for delivering sound and image content, using media to enhance educational practice, and the effects on health and wellbeing of noise, sound and image. Research projects within the group have been funded by the AHRC and ESRC, while consultancy work has been commissioned by the NHS, Arqiva and the Hampshire Emergency Services.  Commercial backing for projects includes financial and technical support from Bruel and Kjaer Ltd, Cirrus Research and Advanced Communications Limited.

Current projects include collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive| , the Royal National Institute for Deaf People| and Hear Tomorrow|.

The group is led by Dr Chris Barlow| , Reader in Technology at Southampton Solent University, and is made up from staff from a number of subject groups within the Maritime and Technology Faculty.
