Abi comes from Hove, East Sussex, where she attended Newman Sixth Form College. She knew that she wanted a career in media, but couldn't make her mind up about the field. The Media with Cultural Studies course at Southampton Solent University gave her the option of elective subjects, which was great for tasting different subjects within the field of media.
Abi gained a place on the British Airways graduate scheme immediately after her graduation. The scheme gave her general training through courses and placements around the business, and her first placement on completion of the training was as Internal Communications Manager. She later joined the British Airways press office as International Communications Executive and worked in international public relations for the company.
Abi says:
"Taking up the News and Journalism elective was a good decision. It helps me in my job now in dealing with journalists, as I know how they work. Other skills developed at University, such as interviewing for journalism, video editing, and general writing are also vital in helping me progress in my career within BA's press office."
