Malcom Herbert
Died July 2004
Malcolm Herbert passed away peacefully in his sleep in July 2004, having battled courageously against cancer for the last four years and more recently suffered a stroke. He leaves his wife Lyn and two children.
Malcolm was Senior Lecturer in Economics & Business Modelling in Southampton Business School, having joined what was then Southampton Institute in 1992 after a long career with British Telecom. Initially his subject expertise lay mainly in the quantitative areas, however he soon developed his interests in information management, e-commerce and also information technology and his innovative ideas in these fields were fundamental in the development of several new degree courses.
His ambassadorial qualities lead to the creation of many links with local businesses and organisations and these significantly contributed to the development and success of the consultancy projects carried out by many of our final-level business students. This aspect of Malcolm's work has consistently been cited as a model of good practice in quality reviews. He will be remembered with love and respect from his colleagues and with gratitude from his students.
