Biography

Dr Richard Elliott is Senior Lecturer in Sociology of Sport and Director of the Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research|.

He holds degrees from the University of Southampton (BA Hons – First Class), the University of Leicester (MSc) and Loughborough University (PhD). Richard is also a qualified higher education teacher (PGCLT).

Richard's main teaching interests are located in the areas of sociology and research. He is unit leader for Football and Society, Sociology of Football, Globalisation of Football and Research Methods for Sport units.

Research interests

Richard's expertise lay in the areas of globalisation, commercialisation and migration in football. He has published widely in these areas and is regularly invited to speak at academic and professional industry conferences in the UK, Europe and globally. He is a recognised academic contact for the Football Association, provides education, training and research for the League Managers Association, and has worked in conjunction with the Premier League, and professional clubs. He also provides expert support for the media, appearing in print, on radio and television.
