Academic Leader and Sport Programme Manager, Richard Penton, joined the Southampton Solent University (then Southampton Institute) in 1994 to set up the Sport and Leisure courses. Since then, the sport portfolio has been expanded from one HND programme to over seven sport degrees. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Sociology degree and also holds an MSc (Econ) from the London School of Economics and a Post Graduate Cert Ed in Further and Higher Education.
Richard has always been interested in sport from both the playing and academic angles. He is a great believer in the need for multi-disciplinary courses involving practical, business and social science skills, as the best grounding for those intending to work in the world of sport.
Richard is also an External Examiner for the University of Surrey.
His favourite past time is watching and reading about sport.
