Biography

A master in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching, Carolyn Westbrook has been teaching English as a Foreign Language since 1992.

Over the years she has taught English in Spain, Germany and Austria for a variety of usage such as Business English, English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes.

A member of various language and teaching professional bodies, such as the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language and the Association of Language Testers in Europe, Carolyn joined Southampton Solent University in 2004 and is a Visiting Lecturer at Neu-Ulm University in Germany.

She is currently Course Leader at Southampton Solent University’s Faculty of Business, Sports and Enterprise for the International Foundation Year, the International Foundation Certificate, and for the Executive English Programme (Salzburg).

Carolyn enjoys playing women's football and snowboarding; she also practices Tae-Kwon-Do and loves spending time with her family.

Research interests

Testing and assessment, and pedagogy.

Work in progress

Carolyn is currently designing and validating a university entrance test for English as a Foreign Language and contributed a poster presentation on the subject at Southampton Solent University TQEF conference in 2008.
