Biography

Mike is an experienced marketing manager, researcher, trainer and lecturer with a strong people-oriented approach to business. He has been involved in the IT industry for 15 years and in B2B communications and marketing for more than 25 years. Mike also spent five years in sales training and marketing with General Motors Europe.

Mike was a co-founder/director of analyst relations consulting firm Tiger Lily Knowledge Limited, and of communications consultancy Proverba Limited. He combines his key skills in marketing, communications, research and training in his position as a Senior Lecturer at Southampton Business School, where he specialises in marketing, e-business and human resource management. He is the Course Leader for the MA Marketing Management and has research and training interests in communications and interpersonal skills.

Mike holds an MSc (Business Economics) from the University of Portsmouth, BSc (Econ) (Hons), London School of Economics, Diploma in Marketing and Postgraduate Certificate in Education, (Further and Higher Education), Manchester. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Society of Business Economists, and the Institute of Directors.

One of Mike's interests is creative writing. He was awarded the title of Regional Airlines Travel Fiction Writer of the Year in 2001.

Industry experience

Mike worked as an industry analyst in the European IT Services team at Gartner/Dataquest and held the role of UK Desktop Services Marketing Manager at Digital Equipment Corporation. He has also worked as a freelance journalist for major IT journals and periodicals.

He is accredited by the South East Economic Development Association (SEEDA) UK as a mentor for small businesses and was trained by the EU Social Fund 'Merlin' programme.
