Biography

Glynis is a Senior Lecturer at Southampton Solent University where she has worked since 1998 teaching in the fields of leisure marketing and health related fitness. Before joining the University, Glynis worked in both the public and private sectors of the leisure industry as a senior manager specialising in strategic marketing and planning.

In addition to her full-time career and driven by her passion for fitness, Glynis qualified as a fitness instructor and taught classes and trained clients at the same time as pursuing her marketing career. Over the years Glynis continued (and continues) to expand her knowledge, experience and qualifications in the fitness field and now specialises in health related fitness for older adults and people who are medically referred for exercise who have chronic diseases and disabilities. To this end Glynis believes that students should have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on exercise programming experience and engages with partners to facilitate the referral of patients and clients who volunteer to work with students. These partners include Southampton General Hospital, Parkinson’s Disease Society, BackCare and numerous GPs.

Glynis' academic, professional qualifications and membership include an MA in Leisure Management from the University of Sheffield, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Member of the Chartered Management Institute, Certificate from the Arthur Jones Institute (Florida, CA) in the operation of the MedX lumbar extension and knee machines, teaching certificates in Exercise to Music, Gym, Circuits, advanced L3 instructor in Older People, Disabled People and Exercise Referral, Specialist Advanced L4 instructor in Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation (BACR), and L4 instructor in Low Back Pain.
