Biography

Tony describes his "beautiful career" as starting back in the days of punk rock. During this time he started his own fanzine and somehow found himself working for the Stranglers pop group. Music was always his first love, and later he would go on to work for a small record label called 'Albion' where he also had his own small indie label called 'True Religion'.

Taught Courses

  1. BA (Hons) Television and Video Production (Full Time)
  2. BA (Hons) Television Post-Production (Full Time)
  3. BA (Hons) Television Studio Production (Full Time)

Industry experience

The call of the stage was too much for Tony to resist. "An inveterate blues shouter I had always been in one band or the other," he says, "the best of these was racket making 'Motor Boys Motor' - a hard driving blues-based band." The group released a single and an LP, and toured in the UK, Norway - and yes, they were big in Germany! Tony also wrote lyrics for the band 'The Screaming Blue Messiahs', who actually reached number 28 in the pop charts with one nutty tune.

Moving away from music, Tony started to work for a photographer/filmmaker. He started to write music promos and found himself to be quite good at what he calls "this rather odd process". Tony also started to make his own films on Super Eight and later Video. This continued as he moved onto direct commercials, short dramas and a documentary, all of which have appeared on the TV.

In later years, Tony started to teach part-time and then full-time. Since teaching, he has continued to work on freelance projects, and has acted as a First Assistant on more than 30 high profile TV commercials. He has also directed second unit sequences on the BBC series 'Spooks' and the LWT series 'Miss Marple'.

Recent publications

Tony has written a book, 'Down by the Jetty', about his all-time favourite band, Dr Feelgood.
