Biography

Producer/Director for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five. Whilst at the BBC in the early 1990's he produced several groundbreaking first-person documentaries for Video Diaries and was the inspiration behind the mass observation television series Video Nation. This work in developing innovative formats led to a spell with Meridian where he created the intimate Three Minutes strand before starting Maverick Television in 1994. It was through Maverick that Tony launched BBC2's iconic Trade Secrets, BBC1’s revamped Going for a Song and made award winning programmes for Comic Relief.

In 1997 he established the BBC’s first New Media Programmes unit in Birmingham producing programmes and online projects for the BBC’s new digital channels, going on to supervise the website for the debut UK series of Big Brother for Channel 4 in 2000. Tony has been teaching all aspects of television production at Southampton Solent since 2005, coordinating media practice across the university and developing the Television BA and MA programmes. In 2007 he helped establish the in-house production centre, Solent Productions|, which makes projects for clients and broadcasters, and currently heads up the Solent’s Skillset Media Academy|.

“The creative freedom and diversity of projects allows me to work with the very best students and staff who constantly challenge and inspire.”
