Daniel Prendergast, Student Governor

 

Daniel PrendergastDaniel was elected by the student body as Students' Union President in March 2010, and subsequently re-elected for a second term in February 2011.  In his role as President, Daniel works closely with both the University and the wider community to ensure that all Southampton Solent students have the best possible experience during their time studying at the institution.  In addition to his appointment to the Board of Governors, Daniel sits on the Student Liaison and Experience Committee.

Daniel undertakes a number of roles within his Presidency, and has taken on a number of additional responsibilties outside of this remit.  As Chair of the Students' Union's Board of Trustees, he is responsible for Union operation and delivery; he is a member of various academic and operational boards within the University; and, as a non-executive director on the NUS Services Board of Directors, Daniel chairs the NUS Finance & Resources Committee and acts as deputy chair for its Purchasing & Scrutiny Committee.   

Daniel has been a keen enthusiast of the creative arts and media over the last nine years and has worked in technical management in private and public theatre venues. During his years at Southampton Solent University, Daniel also held a number of management roles with a local events company.

Daniel has previously been involved with the Students’ Union as a volunteer. He has also worked for the University for five years, starting in the student halls as a Residence Assistant providing support to students living away from home for the first time, and the day-to-day running of the residence. He subsequently developed his role to work within the Accommodation Office, which included overseeing international applications ad software programming.

Daniel studied Television Production at the University and graduated in 2010.  He is aiming to continue this as a career when his second term as President has ended.
