Phil Green, Director of Sport Solent

Phil Green
Phil Green joined Southampton Solent University in 1997 to help establish an innovative Professional Sports Management Unit. In 2000, he took over as Head of the Sport and Recreation Service (since re-branded as Sport Solent) and became a member of the University’s Senior Management Team. In 2004, he became Director of Sport Solent and a member of the University’s Management Board.

Prior to his life in Higher Education, Phil worked in the commercial and retail sector, including a brief spell as a technical author. However, sport in general, cricket specifically, has been at the forefront of his career at both local and national level as a player, coach and administrator.

As a champion of the pivotal role of sport within the University and the wider HE sector, he has overseen the growth of both performance and participation during the past few years. He is currently involved in two major sports facility projects for Solent. Phil is chair of the BUCS cricket SMG, a member of the Hampshire and IOW Advisory Board, HE’s representative on the National Skills Academy for the South East and a board member of Active Southampton.
