1.1 - Legal framework
Every educational institution (universities, as well as, further or higher education institutions) has a legal basis, which forms its legal status. This legal status can have been obtained in a variety of ways such as by Instruments and Articles of Government, Charter or an Act of Parliament. The articles of Government can be found under the Education Reform Act 1988, s.40|.
Legal framework information relates to how Southampton Solent University was established and its standing from the point of view of the law. Ultimately, the corporate status of some HE ‘corporations’ will be conferred by the relevant statutes, in particular the Education Reform Act of 1988 and the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. The actual legislation is already publicly available, the Education Reform Act 1988, Further and Higher Education Act 1992 and Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 may be found at the Office of Public Sector Information|.
The University’s principle officers consist of Chancellor|, Chairman of the Board of Governors|, Vice-Chancellor|, Deputy Vice-Chancellors| and the Director of Finance & Resources|.
