John Rees Professor John Rees obtained a BSc(Eng) Hons degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College and a PhD in Image Processing from the University of Glamorgan. Having completed the Student Engineer sponsorship programme with the Ministry of Defence (N), he then worked for MoD, Intel, and Microsystem Services, in the areas of communications and computer systems.

He first became a lecturer with the Polytechnic of Wales, later incorporated as the University of Glamorgan.  He joined this University from Staffordshire where he served as Faculty Director, Research and Enterprise for the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology.  His personal research interests are in business technology, mobile technology, machine vision and the technical aspects of the knowledge economy.

As a committed educator, he believes the delivery and supported acquisition of high quality technical and academic skills requires the consonant learning experience to enable the student to benefit to best advantage.  The challenge for us as course and unit developers is as much in the design of the student experience as in the discipline specific content.  He is an enthusiastic proponent of technology transfer, skills enhancement, and the engagement of the universities as the engines of the knowledge economy, and has served on regional and national committees and led major projects in related areas.

He is married with two sons.  A long-term student of the guitar, he is also a practitioner of Iwama Ryu Aikido and a keen angler.
