Phil Green, Director of Sport Solent

Phil Green Phil Green joined Southampton Solent University in 1997, initially to help establish the innovative Professional Sports Management Unit. After a brief spell in the Faculty of Media Arts, he moved into the Sport & Recreation Service (now renamed Sport Solent) in 1999.  In 2000 he took over as Head of the Service and joined the University's Senior Management Team, and in 2004 became a Director.

Phil's business life prior to moving into Higher Education was largely in the commercial and retail sector but also included a spell as a technical author. However, sport has underpinned most of his career, and he has been heavily involved at both local and national level as a player, coach and administrator.  

He has consistently championed the importance of sport within the University, and has overseen the growth of both performance and participation in this area. He is a member of the Sports Management Group at BUSA (British Universities Sports Association) and the Southampton Cultural Consortium and is also chairperson of the Southern Universities Sports Conference.
