Mentoring

At Southampton Solent University we want to offer our students the chance to kick-start their careers.

Some students who study at Southampton Solent University may find successfully entering the graduate labour market more difficult than other students. This may be for various diversity related reasons including their disability status, ethnicity, country of origin, age and gender.

We collaborate with local organisations to offer students a mentor who can provide them with industry specific information and advice as well as practical transferable employability skills.

As part of the programme we also run a series of short workshops that are delivered by the mentors on a number of careers-related topics.

The programme is hugely successful and popular with both mentees and mentors alike.

‘It was a pleasure and a privilege to get to know those guys at a very important moment in their lives. It has been a brilliant experience’

(Mentor participant from 2008/09 programme)

‘The best thing about the programme was the input from an independent individual who thought outside the box and offered loads of enthusiasm and encouragement’

(Mentee participant from 2007/08 programme)
