Glastonbury 2009

Best Work Experience in the World!

Glastonbury 2009

A team of 36 staff and students took the Solent Outside Broadcast truck to this year's Glastonbury Festival for a week of mud, music and mayhem.

Our task was to shoot some documentary footage and provide live coverage of the Dance East stage, all in glorious High Definition with top quality multi-track audio.

Tony Wade, Course Leader for Outside Broadcasting in the Martime and Technology Faculty, commented:

"The challenge of filming in HD, and the chance to be part of Britain's premier music festival in the middle of a glorious Summer: it was all just too good to resist.

Staff and students from MARTEC, FCIS and FBSE all contributed to this outstanding project, and there was a lot of excellent team-working around the clock across the whole festival site.

It's like a space shuttle mission really: we were using very advanced technology, working long hours under arduous conditions, there was no possibility of going back to base to collect anything we had forgotten to pack, and of course failure was not an option."
