Biomechanics Laboratory

The new purpose-built biomechanics laboratory at Southampton Solent University is used for teaching, consultancy, research activities and undergraduate projects. The laboratory boasts a range of up-to-date specialised equipment including a state-of-the-art motion capture system that allows athletes' movements to be captured in great detail and accuracy recording at over 500 samples per second. This can be used in conjunction with force data taken from the force plate embedded in the floor which enables small highly portable force transducers or even muscle activations to be recorded by our portable EMG systems. The laboratory can also be used as an exercise studio for group exercise classes and benefits from floor-to-ceiling mirrors down one entire length of the room. Some of the REPs industry awards and CPD courses take place in this area.
