Coaching Conference

Sponsoring an event

Southampton Solent University and Sport Hampshire and IOW are pleased to announce that the 1st annual Hampshire Coaching Conference will take place on 21 May 2011 at Southampton Solent University. The Conference will host over 500 people including; Hampshire sport coaches, Southampton Solent University sport students, the parents of selected students, prospective university students, trade stands, and sport employers.

The aim of the Conference is to build on the success of existing coaching initiatives taking place in Hampshire: adding to and creating a sustainable coaching network, enhancing the student experience of those studying coaching degrees at Southampton Solent University, increasing the awareness and importance of coach education and also building greater links and developing partnerships through sport in the county.

The Hampshire Coaching Conference will educate people on how to make a positive contribution to the development of sport. This is an exciting conference designed to support sport coaches and students through their personal development, experiences in coaching and their contribution to community cohesion.

Sport coaches in Hampshire are essential to the successful operation of sport in the county. Without their support, sport would simply not impact on so many people and communities. The support from each trade stand sponsor will help create a pathway for sports coaches to continue their commitment to sport in Hampshire, addressing community cohesion and being part of the Big Society.

Benefits include:

1. Increased confidence and self-esteem of the people being coached
2. Improved communication, leadership and organisation skills of the coaches
3. Each coach gains a sense of achievement
4. Those coached learn new skills
5. Coaches gain access to subsidised training for personal development
6. Increased health and fitness of the people of Hampshire
7. Improved employment prospects of each coach, leading to improved quality of life
8. Each coach gains a greater sense of responsibility
9. Provides coaches with a greater understanding of the delivery and development of sport

The support, information and guidance given during the Hampshire Coaching Conference and throughout each coach’s pathway in sport will ultimately improve sport and physical activity in the county. Each coach will learn and develop core skills, thus improving the quality of sports coaching in Hampshire.

Supporting and recognising the value of sports coaching through the Coaching Conference will encourage more coaches, students and prospective students in Hampshire to use sport positively as a tool to address wider social needs in Hampshire. This will not only strengthen sport in the county but will also build greater relationships between Southampton Solent University and local sports clubs and help create and sustain community cohesion through the development of sport.
