CPD Courses

Southampton Solent University’s centre for Health, Exercise and Sport Science offers a wide range of CPD workshops for Gym Instructors, Personal Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches and health and fitness enthusiasts. All workshops are accredited by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) with four continuing professional development (CPD) points (subject to participant’s current REPs status).

The current workshops on offer include:

  • Dynamic Dumbbell Training
  • Dynamic Swiss Ball Training
  • Dynamic Plyometric Training
  • Dynamic Olympic lifting
  • Dynamic Medicine Ball Training.

Workshops are run once a month in the University’s state-of-the-art sport science laboratories where Senior Lecturer and Conditioning Expert, Marcus Sanger, will review the current research surrounding the training method, and guide you through the  different techniques and approaches so that you can give more to your clients and to your workout.

Example of the Dynamic Dumbbell Timetable:

9am - 9.30am   Session 1: Welcome, introduction and course overview 
9.30am - 10am   Session 2: Functional/core training “a research review” 
10am - 10.40am   Session 3: Screening/goal setting/health and safety
10.40am - 11am   Break
11am - 11.40am   Session 4: The preparation phase
11.40am - 12.40pm   Session 5: The basic lifts
12.40pm - 1.30pm   Lunch
1.30pm - 2.30pm   Session 6: Perfecting/teaching the basic lifts/video analysis
2.30pm - 3.20pm   Session 7: Sequencing the dynamic dumbell lifts
3.20pm - 3.40pm   Break
3.40pm - 4.30pm   Session 8: Delivering a small group session
4.30pm - 5pm   Session 9: Your feedback and wrap up


On completion of a workshop each participant will receive:  CPD Reps

  • 4 REPs CPD Points
  • Certificate of Attendance
  • Portfolio of workshop notes with photographs of each and every drill
  • Copies of academic research in support of the specific workshop.
