Dr Richard Elliott is Director of the Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research, and Course Leader of the University's Football Studies with Business programme. He holds degrees from the University of Southampton (BA Hons, 1st class), the University of Leicester (MSc) and Loughborough University (PhD). His expertise lay in the areas of globalisation, commercialisation and migration in football. He is a published author and is regularly invited to speak at academic and professional industry conferences in the UK, Europe and globally. He is a recognised academic contact for the Football Association, provides education, training and research for the League Managers Association, and has worked in conjunction with the Premier League, and professional clubs. He also provides expert support for the media, appearing in print, on radio and television.

John Cross has taught at Southampton Solent University since 1990 and has been developing and lecturing on a range of sports management and football programmes designed to meet industry needs. This involves working closely with several of the sports governing bodies including; the League Managers Association, the Institute of Football Management and Administration, the Football Association and a significant number of professional football clubs. His most recent achievement was in pioneering the 'Professional Sports Management and Administration Programme (with Football pathway)' which is unique to the sports industry. As a chartered marketer and member of the Institutes of Marketing and Management he has been well placed to undertake and publish research papers in both football marketing and football business strategy. Recent publications in the area of football marketing and management have appeared in the 'Journal of Targeting, Measurement and Analysis for Marketing' and the 'Journal of Strategic Change' . John has also provided training programmes for the Institute of Football Management and Administration.

Dr Stewart Bruce-Low obtained his BSc (Hons) from the University of Chester and both his MSc Exercise and Nutrition Science and Doctorate from the University of Liverpool. He is the course leader for the Applied Sport Science Courses and associated pathways and also the Laboratory Director where he is responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the Sport Science laboratories. His area of expertise is the Physiology of Exercise where he applies his knowledge working with the England Ladies national team and several professional football clubs. Currently he is consultant to individual players from clubs such as Bournemouth AFC and Bury FC. His consultancy extends overseas where he is physiologist for the EduSport FC Academy in Zambia. His professional accreditation (Physiology Support) through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) ensures he provides the most professional and appropriate support to the athletes and squads he works with.

Steven Henderson was trained as an economist at the University of Kent at Canterbury and developed his skills to analyse strategic change in a number of commercial areas including football, leisure centres, ecotourism and biotechnology. He is currently working on the relationship between the strategic health of a football club and its performance in league and cup competitions.

Oscar Mwaanga is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Sport, Business and Enterprise. He holds a Diploma in Physical Education and Geography from the University of Zambia and a BA and MA in Sport Studies and Sport Psychology both from the Norwegian University of Sport Science. He is currently completing his PhD studies at Leeds Metropolitan University where his dissertation project is investigating the role of sports empowerment for HIV/AIDS positive people in Zambia. His area of expertise is in the sociology of sport for development where his wide ranging interests focus on the role of sport in community development in sub-Saharan Africa. He has been a prominent sport for development leader and activist for the past 15 years. During this time he has pioneered a number of world renowned programmes and approaches including Kicking AIDS Out, Go Sisters and EduSports (Education through Sports). He heads the largest football academy in Zambia - EduSport Football Academy. Among other things, he provides sport psychology and lifestyle counselling support to young Zambian football professionals from the EduSport Football Academy.

Dr Mark Hayes is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Society. He holds a First Class BA (Hons) and a PhD (Southampton), and has a wide range of academic interests. He has published widely on various aspects of politics and history. With regard to football, Mark has focused specifically upon aspects of fan identity and the interface between commerce and culture; he has published material and given conference papers in this area.

Jim O'Brien is Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Southampton Solent University. He has taught extensively in higher education in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Greece and Spain; within his expertise he has developed and taught courses in Sport and Politics, Sport and the Media and Sport and Popular Culture. He has also worked as a journalist in the United States. A holder of degrees from Keele (BA), Portsmouth (MA) and Sussex (MPhil/DPhil) Universities, and a qualified teacher (PGCE, Manchester), his primary research interests are based around Spanish football. He is currently working on a major study, 'La Furia Espanola; Football, Politics and the Media in Spain', to be published by Intellect Books. In recent years he has given conference and research papers on 'Comparative Club and Fan Cultures', 'Representations of Football in the Media', and the 'History and Culture of FC Barcelona'. He is a member of both the Association of Journalists in Education and the Sport and Politics Study Group. He is currently visiting lecturer in Sport and Spanish Culture at the American University of Barcelona.

John May is Course Leader of the newly-established BA (Hons) Sport Journalism degree. With more than 25 years experience in sports journalism, he has covered sport at the highest level across a wide variety of media platforms. He began his career in sports journalism at the Hastings & St Leonards Observer before moving to the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton. After a spell working as a freelance for various national newspapers he joined BBC Sport in 1999 where he helped establish the reputation of the then-fledgling BBC Sport website into the world-leader it now is before diversifying into other areas within the corporation's sporting portfolio. During his career he has covered sport at the highest level including Olympic and Commonwealth Games, football and cricket World Cups, Premier League football, major boxing championship bouts, major athletics championships and a host of other sports. A currently practising journalist, he contributes to newspapers in a freelance capacity and continues to work at the BBC. He possesses a wide and deep knowledge of sport and its workings and relationships with the media and provides analysis and comment on Premier League matters to Israeli radio and newspapers.

Clwyd has taught at Southampton Solent University since 2002 after completing a MSc in Sports Coaching at Brunel University and the UEFA 'A' Licence with the Football Association. He is currently Course Leader of the University's Football Studies degree, the professional coaching courses and is External Advisor for the Football Foundation Degree at UCC. As a Coach Educator with the Football Association in Coaching and Psychology and a member of U.E.F.A.'s 'Coaching Circle', Clwyd has attended conferences in Holland and Italy.  Clwyd has worked as a Technical Analyst for a number of International teams at major tournaments including the Romanian U16 Team – European Championship 2001, The Paraguay National Team – World Cup 2006, and the Botswana National Team – COSAFA Cup 2007. He has delivered football specific education programmes and clinics in Europe, U.S.A. and Africa and has featured in articles in the Times and Spanish Sports newspaper Diario As.   

Paul Bennett CMS, DMS

Paul Bennett has taught at Southampton Solent University for the past eleven years in a variety of subjects including Strategy, Sports Operations and Football Administration. He obtained his academic qualifications at Southampton Institute following a successful career as a professional footballer. He played a combined total of more than 400 games for Southampton, where he was a member of the FA Cup winning squad in 1976, for Reading, where he captained the side that won the old Division 4 title and was a major contributor to that side playing 11 consecutive games without conceding a goal – still a record.  Paul finally completed his professional career at Aldershot before moving into local football. He has supported the introduction of the 'Certificate in Professional Football Management and Administration', and is now responsible for its delivery and development.

Dr John Harris is Senior Lecturer in Sport and Event Management at Glasgow Caledonian University. He has published widely in the areas of women's football, sporting celebrity and national identity. His work on David Beckham has attracted international media attention and he has presented his research at conferences in Europe and North America. John led the early development of the Football Studies programme at Southampton Solent University and has worked as an external examiner for a number of English universities. He has also worked as a consultant with a number of sport and leisure providers.
