Welcome to the schools and colleges section

The Solent Partnerships Team| is committed to developing a range of activities with schools and colleges across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. These activities are designed to raise students’ aspirations for Higher Education (HE) and support them in their progression. We can also offer a variety of CPD opportunities for academic and support staff.

Academic study support

A suite of pick-and-mix workshops that will enable students to develop valuable skills in (e.g.) academic writing, research, exam techniques, referencing and presentations. There is also a free, online guide to developing academic skills called succeed@solent lite: mycourse.solent.ac.uk/succeedlite|. All resources will ultimately support them in preparing for HE study.

Taster Days

These provide students with an insight into university life and the benefits of HE study through a range of hands-on taster sessions within various subjects (e.g. Art & Design, Digital media, Engineering, Fashion, Journalism, Law, Music, Radio production, Robotics, Sports Science, Tourism, Web design…). Our Student Ambassadors| are also on hand to relay their own experiences.

Master classes

Specialist classes in chosen subject areas designed to help raise student attainment and interest in progression. Typically, these are aimed at students who are seeking to progress into HE.

Progression Days

Designed to inform and prepare students for HE (Year 12 or 13). Workshops and presentations with valuable input from Student Ambassadors| to support your students and help to identify key issues to consider (e.g. Choosing a course, Finance and Budgeting, Student Life).

Careers Fairs and Parents’ Evenings

If you are planning a Careers Fair or Parents’ Evening for your school or college, have you thought about asking us to attend? We can provide Student Ambassadors| and/or staff to facilitate a stand but also talk about life at university, student finance and budgeting, choosing a course etc.

UCAS Preparation Workshops

A range of pick-and-mix workshops predominantly designed for those applying to UCAS (but will also benefit those seeking employment). These include support for Choosing a course, Finance and Budgeting, Personal Statements, Tutor References and UCAS.com. Student Ambassadors| will also be on hand to relay their experiences.

The Compact Scheme

The Compact Scheme| aims to encourage participation in higher education for students who may not normally consider going to university, or students who through no fault of their own may not achieve their full potential at further education level.

Something missing?

Please contact us| if there is something you would like us to support or you would like to put together a tailored programme of activities across the year.
