SKILLSET

Discounted Shooting People membership

Shooting People|, the world's largest network of independent filmmakers, has teamed up with Skillset Film and Media Academies| to offer all students 2/3 off their annual membership, making it only £10. Shooting People helps members get their films and TV programmes made and find the audiences they deserve through a community of filmmakers, sharing resources, skills and experience. There are over 38,000 members in the UK and US and over 200 films each week are cast and crewed using the services.

Shooting People members can create their own profiles, which are searchable by the rest of the membership, and can also upload their films. The site maintains the UK Independent Film Calendar, hosts lots of interviews, blogs and free filmmaking resources, and members only special offers.

2010 has been a great year for Shooting People members. In October alone, they won a bunch of international awards and cash prizes. Filmmaker Oscar Sharp won the Grand Prize of £30,000 in the Virgin Media Shorts Awards, and Simon Robson picked up the Grand Prize at the recent US animation festival Animatron, alongside four other prize-winning members. The inaugral Vimeo Festival in New York also saw successes for the network.

As a member you become part of a supportive and collaborative community where you can work with people like Oscar and Simon, sharing ideas, resources and contacts. There is a broad mix of talent and experience on Shooting People: Directors, Writers, Producers, Actors, Art Directors, DoP’s, Editors, Composers, Make-Up Artists... the variations are plenty.

Have a look around their their site|; see if it takes your fancy.
We think it’s an essential next step for anyone serious about making films.
