Abbey Road

Students record at Abbey Road

Three Solent students were chosen to record their own music at Abbey Road Studios, where legendary group The Beatles performed. They were selected in a competition of all students from the Popular Music programme. Each composing an original piece for
a 65-piece orchestra.

Dr Pete Wilson, Popular Music Performance course leader, said: "Some of these students have no classical music background, and to now be composing for a full orchestra and recording the pieces at Abbey Road is an amazing achievement."

The entrants were given tutorial assistance by TV composer Richard Heacock and were selected by film music producer Graham Walker and film composer Mike Moran, who devised the project and worked with them at Abbey Road.

An all-student crew from Solent Productions| followed them through the competition, as they worked on their music and eventually got to record at Abbey Road. The 15 minute film will be premiered at a cinema in Southampton later this year.
