Enquire: 023 8201 5066

Are you looking to upgrade your existing marketing qualifications into a full honours degree? This one-year top-up programme is specifically designed to help you build on what you already know, strengthening the skills you developed during work in the industry or earlier study at HND level (or equivalent).

  • An intensive curriculum enables students to earn a full honours degree in just one year.
  • Students learn the essential skills required to drive growth, create brand awareness and manage a range of marketing projects.
  • Students also learn important business and management skills. This ensures a solid understanding of the business needs that underlie modern marketing.
  • The curriculum includes an independent research project, teaching valuable critical and analytical thinking skills.
  • Students are supported as they pursue work placements and other hands-on learning opportunities.
  • The curriculum covers a range of marketing topics including digital marketing, corporate communications, marketing to international audiences and marketing strategy.
  • The Southampton Solent University campus offers modern facilities including high-end computer suites and comfortable group working spaces.
  • Solent Creatives, the University’s on-campus creative agency, offers marketing students the chance to pitch for consultation projects and other live briefs.

The industry

The UK’s economic recovery is maintaining a strong pace, with many businesses feeling comfortable enough to focus on growth for the first time since the survival-oriented recession years. Studying a degree in marketing positions students perfectly to help drive that growth, delivering quality marketing research and then making decisions accordingly.

The programme

Delivered in just one year, this marketing top-up course is best suited to those who already have professional experience, a marketing qualification at HND level, or both. This enables students to jump straight into the intensive curriculum.

Students learn from a course team with a wide range of academic and industry experience. Their established industry links have provided past students with a range of exciting opportunities including guest lectures, live briefs and industry assessments. Businesses that have previously been involved with Solent’s business and marketing programmes include Mercedes Benz, Ahmed Tea and Dorset Goodness.

Towards the end of the year, students will undertake an independent research project. This project can centre on a subject of the students choosing, with many using it to springboard careers in particular industries or disciplines.

Students may also take part in national marketing and business competitions. Past students have made entries to both the University Business Challenge and the Pearson RED Challenge.

Next steps

Think you’d like to pursue a career as a professional marketer? Southampton Solent University’s marketing top-up covers a broad range of topics, building on your existing knowledge and providing you with the essential skills needed to thrive in agency, consultancy or in-house positions.
