Kick-start your advertising career with our professionally accredited degree

Enquire: 023 8201 5066

Think you’d like to work in the exciting world of advertising? With a strong focus on advertising and its related disciplines, this marketing degree will provide you with practical and in-depth exposure to the skills and working practices of modern advertising professionals. These skills will be supported by a comprehensive grounding in business, marketing and management; which you will then be able to apply in a range of professional industries.

  • This course is professionally accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Communication, Advertising and Marketing Foundation (CAM).
  • These accreditations show that the curriculum meets the needs of industry employers.
  • Students undertake comprehensive study of transferable business and marketing skills, ideal for careers in communications, analytics, CRM, PR or digital marketing.
  • Advertising specific modules prepare students for a range of careers in account management or marketing for the advertising industry.
  • Optional units allow students to specialise their expertise.
  • Students have the opportunity to pursue additional qualifications including PRINCE2 project management and Google Analytics awards.
  • Past students have taken part in UK and international competitions such as International Marketing Week, IBM Universities Business Challenge and the Pearson (RED) challenge.
  • Students learn from tutors with a wide range of academic and industry experience.
  • Students will attend guest lectures delivered by visiting professionals and graduates.

The industry

The UK’s economic recovery is maintaining a strong pace, with many businesses feeling comfortable enough to focus on growth for the first time since the survival-oriented recession years. Studying a degree in marketing positions students perfectly to help drive that growth, delivering quality marketing research and then making decisions accordingly.

Students will also benefit from the course’s unique focus on advertising - an industry which is currently capitalising on the increasing number of digital advertising channels and rapid improvements in demographic targeting technology.

The programme

Developed in collaboration with industry professionals, this marketing with advertising management programme focuses on practical skills and hands-on experience of common industry scenarios. Assisted by the course team, students are encouraged to seek work experience and live brief opportunities throughout the curriculum.

Past students have benefitted greatly from these live client briefs and commissioned projects, experiencing what it is like to work to a client’s requirements while still utilising their knowledge of creative and professional best practise. Businesses that have previously been involved with the course include FitSkool, GoPhysio and Dorset Goodness.

As well as developing an advertising specific skillset, students will also learn essential business and marketing skills. These transferable skills are sought after in a range of industries, ensuring that students are able to pursue a variety of opportunities after graduation.

Students are also given the opportunity to pursue professional qualifications. These include CIM, PRINCE2, Google Analytics and CAM Foundation awards. These industry-focused qualifications are well respected by employers, and Southampton Solent University is the only university in the South East to offer this level of professional qualification alongside a marketing degree.
