Entry level

Standard entry 

A first degree or equivalent professional qualification. (Minimum lower second classification or equivalent).  

Non-standard entry

 You may be admitted to MA Business Studies without a first degree provided you can demonstrate the necessary graduate-equivalent knowledge, abilities and skills to benefit from the programme. You will need to provide evidence of at least five years' professional experience in business. 

The prime factor in deciding whether to accept a student through the non-standard route is whether the admissions team is convinced that the student has the prior knowledge necessary to start on the programme of study, the motivation to succeed, and the intellectual ability to achieve the programme outcomes. 

If your first language is not English, or you have not been taught or achieved your entrance qualifications in the English language, you must have achieved an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent

Course overview  

This MA in Business Studies degree at Southampton Solent University is aimed at aspiring and current business managers, including those with experience but few academic qualifications, who wish to gain an advanced academic qualification.  

If you are in full time employment and wish to further your knowledge, this course will enable you to study for a Masters degree in Business at you own pace taking as many or few units as you wish each year. 

It offers you the opportunity to develop your academic knowledge within the business arena, at the same time apply this knowledge to work-based situations.  

The course has been endorsed by The Adjutant General's Corps for its officers and long serving NCOs.

Assessment  

All units are assessed by written assignments or presentations, there are no examinations. Most assessments are work based assignments.  

Special features    

  1. Use of Blended Learning enables you to study and work full-time.
  2. The use of a specially developed 'virtual learning environment' (VLE).
  3. The ability for non-graduates to study to Masters level.
  4. Unlike most distance learning schemes, you will have regular class sessions.

Attendance   

You are expected to attend for four weekends each academic year. You are then supported by our VLE, and tutors via e-mail, telephone and personal interview. 

Other features  

The Masters in Business Studies is a part-time general business course, which conforms to the Quality Assurance Agency masters guidelines, and is designed for students wishing to integrate their business experience with relevant areas of academic study. The course is suitable for managers with middle management experience, possibly with limited academic qualifications or with appropriate academic qualifications and some managerial experience.
