Nasiru Taura

2012

Originally from Nigeria, Nasiru Taura was awarded a Master's in Management and Finance with distinction. “I was looking forward to further my studies in the UK," he explains. “The quality of education here attracted me, and after discussing the possibilities of further studies with some UK university representatives visiting Nigeria, I made up my mind to come over to complete my studies.

"I searched the internet for a university that would meet my needs and requirements and Solent fit the bill. I’m truly glad to have enrolled on the Master's programme because at the end of the course I will not only have gained a Master's degree, but also acquired a wide range of transferable skills which help me every day and will continue to do so throughout my career.”

Nasiru, whose background is in accountancy, is currently undertaking research for his PhD in indigenous entrepreneurship in Nigeria through economic policies: “Many people do not like accountancy and seem to think that accountancy and finance are abstract disciplines. But it is the ability to interpret the figures and come up with meaning around those figures that really triggered my interest in finance. Finance deals not just with the numbers but with our ability to find meaning in them.

"Students often ask me what prompted me to proceed to a PhD on completion of my Master's degree at Solent. My answer is that studying for a PhD is about your research output. Research students requires a conducive learning atmosphere, a competent research base and insatiable staff support in order to thrive. I cannot think of a better place than Southampton Solent University to provide all this and more. I am having the best learning experience of my life at Southampton Solent University and would unreservedly recommend the MA Management and Finance programme.”
