Trevor Andrews

Winner of the Lawton Group Prize for Best Part-Time Student

Trevor came to Southampton Solent University at age 58 to fulfil his life time ambition to get a university degree. He explains, “Whilst professional qualifications are useful, they rarely provide the same experience the academic process offers. With all its challenges, anxieties and frustrations it can seem it bit daunting, but it is worth the effort. The exhilarating feeling on submission day is not to be missed!”

But it wasn’t all about personal fulfilment.  “The Masters improved my research and writing skills and gave me credibility for teaching as well as in business” he admits.

For Trevor, the delivery method was a key factor in choosing this particular MA. He states “As a marketing and management coach the conventional part-time/evening format was not very convenient, so when I discovered a course that ran on Saturdays, nothing could stop me. Because we weren’t tired after a hard day’s work, everyone participated enthusiastically and made each day worthwhile.”

Successfully completing the course opened up new avenues for Trevor and greatly increased his confidence. He adds “My students and consultancy clients have benefited from my new skills and they will keep me gainfully employed until it's time for me to hang up my gown and put away my marketing toolbox.”

But it’s not time for that yet. As well as working part-time as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and running his own business helping others to develop their business skills, Trevor is also writing a book titled ‘The Time of Your life’. “I hope to revolutionise time management, so look out for it!” he proudly exclaims.
