"After completing my MA course at Southampton Solent University, I wasted no time on regrouping and figuring out what to do. I returned to my home country of Bosnia and started working straight away by joining the family company EMAX Ltd that my father founded back in 1989.
"The company's core business is the distribution of mechanical parts, e.g. bearings, oil seals, welding materials, screw materials etc. It is a small company doing big business, since our biggest customers are power plants, coal mines and many other big enterprises.
"As a Marketing Manager of this company, I have a huge responsibility in many aspects, and often my job requirements exceed things being taught on any postgraduate course, but such is business life. Nevertheless, the skills and knowledge I gained during my MA Marketing Management course are of extreme value to me. Just to name a few of the skills I gained, and that I use in my everyday business: all aspects of marketing communication, branding, human resources management, distribution/sales, designing marketing and business plans, and market research. All in all, the MA Marketing Management course teaches many things, it is up to the student to put everything he/she has learned in practice, which often is very hard to do, depending on the business environment.
"About a year ago, I worked for McCann-Erickson for six months, and I had a memorable experience working there. The type of business is totally opposite of what I do in EMAX, and working in a marketing agency like McCann-Erickson is marketing in its purest. Its core practice is marketing communication, through all the means of advertising, PR and media planning, e.g. targeting the potential customers at the right time, using the right communications method, but all within the budget limit. It was a hard work but also a lot of fun!"
